MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Its extraordinarily
Christmassy here in Bahrain
actually. Its been pretty chilly……….relatively, (17 degrees requires thermal
underwear here. - Not that I admit to
owning any.) There are fairy lights
everywhere, fake snow, Christmas trees and decorations in all the shops, and we
have been singing carols at our local supermarket and at the Christingle
service at St Chris Cathedral which was gratifyingly packed. We have a real
tree of course, thanks to BA flying them in from Holland and mince pies and all the works. Some pictures can be found here

Today is Christmas
day. Santa came successfully and the turkey is in, cranberry sauce made,
potatoes on, cake iced, chocolate cake awaiting icing, Mike blind drunk on
whisky (joke) so all is in full swing. Enormous apologies to all Burians and
Hecks for heinously breaking with tradition and opening a whole pile of
pressies in the morning but we have friends coming for the afternoon and a
visit or two to go on afterwards so we are dealing with the mayhem en famille. Don’t
worry though, we are opening them slowly and savouring them greatly.
Miss all our
friends and family very much and thinking very fondly of my Mum of course.
BEST WISHES

A picture of a very grown up Rachel | BOARDING SCHOOL IN BAHRAIN
Living in Bahrain is a bit like being in boarding school. As July
approaches, conversations end with "See you in September" as women and
children and most of the guys prepare for the annual exodus from the
heat to the cooler climes of Europe and the States. All us expats are members of extra-curricular clubs, we all meet
regularly in the Junior Common Room (Starbucks, Budaiya) and the Senior
Common Room (Beach Club). Parents generally come for Open Days around
Christmas and Easter. School outings take place at every concert, play
or "do" and the achievements of every pupil are recorded
regularly in the School Magazine (GDN - Gulf Daily News) or Bahrain
This Month. |
